SAUDIA Airlines - Historical Highlights:

  • When SAUDIA was first established: It only owned a single twin-engine DC-3 (Dakota) HZ-AAX. In fact, it was a gift from former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt to King Abdul Aziz.
  • Months later: 2 more DC-3s were purchased.
  • In 1946: SAUDIA was declared an operating agency of the Ministry of Defense.
  • In 1954: SAUDIA purchased its first pressurized aircraft, 10 Convair 340s.
  • In 1961: SAUDIA started flying to Sharjah and Tehran. Moreover, SAUDIA introduced in-Kingdom training programs and purchased 2 Boeing 720-Bs 
  • In 1962: SAUDIA became the first airline in the region to operate a commercial jet using B720-Bs.
  • In 2009: SAUDIA signed an agreement with SITA to upgrade the technical infrastructure and link 250 SV offices online in around 60 countries. Also, SAUDIA purchased its first Boeing 777 aircraft and received 2 Airbus 320s.
  • In 2012: Saudia received 2 Boeing 777-300ERs and 20 aircraft from the American manufacturer. Later in the same year, it rejuvenated its identity with a new logo and slogan, “Welcome to Your World”. 
  • In 2015: SAUDIA launched the SV2020 flight. Furthermore, SAUDIA has signed a deal to acquire 50 state-of-the-art Airbus aircraft, including 20 (A330-300s) Regional planes and 30  (A320s).
  • In  2016: SAUDIA revealed its all-new luxurious first-class B777-300ER suite.
  • In 2018: SAUDIA carried 16.8 million on 77,000 flights between January and April.

Saudi Arabian Airlines Baggage Allowance

International Flights 

  • Passengers flying on "Hospitality Class" are entitled to carry two pieces and the weight of the single piece shall not exceed 23 kgs.
  • Passengers flying on the Hospitality class are allowed to carry a handbag of a size not more than 115 cm, and the weight shall not exceed 7 kg.
  • Passengers flying on "First" and "Business" classes are entitled to carry two pieces and the weight of the single piece shall not exceed 32 kg.
  • The First and Business Class passengers are allowed to carry a handbag of a size not more than 115 cm, a documented case not exceeding 100 cm, and the two pieces do not exceed 9 kg.

Domestic Flights 

  • Passengers flying on the "Hospitality Class" are entitled to carry a single piece and the weight of the single piece shall not exceed 25 kg.
  • Passengers flying on "First" and "Business" classes are entitled to carry a single piece of weight not exceeding 25 kg.
  • The First and Business passengers are allowed to carry a handbag of a size not more than 115 cm and a second one of a size not more than 100 and the total weight should not exceed 9 kg.
  • Passengers on the Hospitality class are allowed to carry a handbag of no more than 115 cm, and the weight shall not be more than 7 kg.

Saudi Arabian Airlines Check-in Information

For passengers with a confirmed e-ticket, online check-in can be made between 48 hours and 60 minutes before departure time. Web check-in is available for All domestic flights & selected international flights.

  • Web check-in is currently unavailable for Passengers with special service requests such as wheelchairs, visual/ hearing impairments, extra seats, or accompanied pets.
  • Departure gates close 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time for both domestic & international flights.
  • Passengers can issue the Boarding Passes at Check-in Counters, Via Email or by receipting the printed boarding pass (paper).

SAUDIA may choose to cancel seats booked through online check-in in case of:

  • Arriving late at the boarding gate.
  • Not having valid travel documents, including a visa to the destination and/or transit stops.

Note: Passengers using the web check-in are required to produce valid photo identification using the boarding pass for security clearance and boarding (passport/official photo identification). Failing to comply with this rule will result in denied boarding.
